Bhutan requires tourists to obtain a visa before entering the country. The Bhutanese government regulates tourism through a policy called “High Value, Low Impact Tourism.” This policy aims to minimize the impact of tourism on Bhutan’s unique culture and environment by limiting the number of tourists and requiring them to spend a minimum daily fee.

Tourist visas are usually valid for the duration of the tour booked through the tour operator.
